News item: any time you see a “news item” cartoon, the cartoonist has no other ideas and has to drink the dregs, so to speak. I can’t stand this sort of cartoon. I guess that makes me a hypocrite.
I did like the way the perspective wasn’t too skewed (as “real” artists can probably tell, I have very little formal artistic training, save for a few Saturday classes at ACA in high school), and I was also pleased with the spontaneous look of the linework (which is preserved in the professor’s head, but mostly brushed over elsewhere). The flowing scratchiness of a Hunt 102 pen is one of the few things that absolutely cannot be reproduced by a computer program.
