Me? Bitter? I will admit that Cagle has got skillz with the #2 pencil. I am simply of the opinion that one shouldn’t recycle gags and artwork at the same time. At least draw the media swarm in a different arrangement or something.

The interesting thing about looking at old Doonesbury is that none of the White Houses are photocopied. They differ from strip to strip. Which makes sense given that Trudeau was coming from Jules Feiffer mode rather than Lazy Cartoonist mode.

Don’t make me call you bitter, Bill.
Daryl is one of the most candid, open cartoonists around, and I really appreciate that about him. Please tell me any more cartoonists you know that admit to not being Pulitzer Prize-worthy. (Obviously, not that he isn’t that at all, but he admits he isn’t perfect, at least.)

Have you ever read Doonesbury? He uses the same drawings of the White House and many other images all the time. There is such a time pressure on opinion cartoons – and so little time to sell them – that I think it’s fine to rework minor pieces into a brand new exciting piece.

I know. It makes too much sense. The guy who made a killing off of playing the same retarded man-child in every film hooks up with the guys who somehow managed to make the retarded-man-child subgenre respectable in the eyes of critics.

I’m mainly still bitter about Apatow inflicting the term “bromance” upon the English language. And Adam Sandler for spending my whole childhood ruining comedy films. But that’s another post.
